Finding Providers for Infertility Treatment
If you reside within Kings, Queens, New York, Bronx, Richmond, Nassau, or Westchester counties, Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) services can ONLY be provided at the Weill Cornell Center for Reproductive Medicine and Columbia’s Center for Women’s Reproductive Care. If you live outside of the counties listed above, you ALSO have access to the Aetna Institutes of Excellence (IOE) network for Infertility Services.
Clinics that have met enhanced quality, safety and economic criteria are designated to participate in the Institutes of Excellence network for Infertility Services. Designated IOE clinics have demonstrated success in infertility care, a commitment to continuous improvement and represent an exceptional value for our members. Preauthorization may be required for coverage to be effective.
SART is dedicated to the practice of assisted reproductive technologies (ART) in the United States. They are an independent third party that provides additional information for members and patience who are seeking infertility services.
Interested in Fertility Preservation?
Please note that, under the POS plan, egg extraction is an eligible expense when performed at a qualified location (Weill Cornell Center for Reproductive Medicine or Columbia University Fertility Center, or an Aetna Institute of Excellence if outside the five boroughs, Nassau and Westchester counties). Egg extraction is a voluntary, elective procedure and does not require an infertility diagnosis or referral by your physician to be eligible for coverage. The cryopreservation(freezing), monthly storage charge, and thawing for the frozen eggs, sperm, and embryos is effective January 1st, 2023, eligible coverage under the plan, and applies to the $30,000 Lifetime Maximum. The EPO plan still requires an iatrogenic diagnosis for this benefit. As with prescriptions for IVF, drugs are covered separately by CVS Caremark and do not apply to the Aetna lifetime maximum.
Prior to using your infertility benefits, please call your Aetna Service Advocate at 1-866-267-1091 (TTY: 711) for your general benefits questions.
For specific infertility benefits questions, you may be transferred to NIU by your Aetna Service Advocate, or contact them directly at 1-800-575-5999 (TTY: 711).
Please note: Your Aetna Service Advocate can provide information and answer questions only for the plan in which you are currently enrolled. If you have questions about a plan that you are not currently enrolled in because you are newly eligible or considering a plan change during Benefits Annual Enrollment (in the fall), contact NYPAskAetna.com and include your Aetna member ID (if available) for a callback from an Aetna representative who can counsel you.
